Entertainment channel Challenge has signed a deal to broadcast this year’s Miss World competition to viewers across the UK.
The NTL-owned channel has entered a contract with the Miss World Organisation and Zeal Television which will see it broadcast the build up and final of the 56th Miss World event held in Poland.
Challenge will air ten TV shows over the course of four weeks featuring the contestants touring around Poland with the two-hour final taking place in the country’s capital Warsaw on 30 September.
The Miss World Competition, which features contestants from over 100 countries, is broadcast to 200 countries and attracts global viewing figures of close to two billion.
This year’s event will give viewers the chance to interactively vote for contestants in a series of six 30 minute “Vote For Me” shows each featuring contestants from the six world regions.
Miss World Organisation chairman and chief executive Julia Morley said: “The 56th Miss World final will be our most interactive show to date, with the public contributing greatly to choosing the winner of Miss World 2006.
“Challenge is a family entertainment channel at the forefront of TV interactivity in the UK. We are delighted that by working with Challenge, viewers in Britain will be able to cast their votes and then watch the result in the live TV final on 30 September.”
