It probably came as no surprise to many people that Ambuyah Ebanks was the one wearing the crown at the end of the incredible Miss Cayman Islands pageant on Saturday night, 18 February. Ms Ebanks stole the show when she took to the catwalk and even though she had some stiff competition from not least Arleth Chiari-Powery, who took first runner-up and the other girls who put in a sterling performance, Ms Ebanks was on the top of her game.

Even in the world of beauty it is all about the performance on the night and from her section of casual wear, her choice of bikini to her outstanding evening gown, Ms Ebanks had the crowd eating out of her hand.

All six feet of her captured the audience’s heart, but more importantly she captured the judges’ points and even though Ms Chiari-Powery took the Miss Photogenic title, often an indicator of the winner, Ms Ebanks took, best legs and best in gown as well as the title.

The evening was a great success. The Miss Cayman Islands Committee 2006 headed up by Lynne Whittaker did a sterling job and created a beautiful stage for the girls and the evening’s entertainers to perform on.
The Lion’s Centre had a healthy audience with standing room only by the time the show was underway.

Compère & MC Deon Mattis and Joel Francis did an excellent job introducing the girls and of course their outfits and the show moved along smoothly.

Minister Hon Charles Clifford made a short and sweet speech to help keep things moving along and maintain the tension of the night’s competition.

The judges faced a tough evening but with the help of the Cayman Islands’ very own super model Selita Ebanks, they came through with the decision that seemed to please the crowd.

There can only ever be one winner. And although Arleth Chiari-Powery was a close contender and her fellow contestants Jhanelle Ellis, who took the Miss Personality title, Cervetta Harvey, who won the fans’ choice of Best Smile in the web vote and Marsena Hydes and Jovani Hessing who took second runner up gave it their best shot, Ms Ebanks walked away with the crown.

With that and her many prizes including the coveted scholarship, she will also now compete against the most beautiful women in the world at both the forthcoming Miss Universe and Miss World Pageants.
