THEY may be identical in looks and finish each other’s sentences but 21-year-old twins Zoie and Mel Swindells have their differences.

“Everyone says I talk a lot more then Mel.”

“Zoie’s the chipper one, she’s also the neat freak.”

“Mel is also a couple of centimetres taller.”

Entering the Miss Universe Australia regional heat, being held at Coffs Harbour's Park Beach Plaza this weekend, will be a change of pace for these two Southern Cross University graduates who list rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing and horse riding as favourite pastimes.

“When friends suggested we enter the pageant we just looked at each and said at the same time, ‘I’ll do it if you’ll do it,’” Mel said.

Caroline Bleechmore, marketing manager of Park Beach Plaza, is busy with final arrangements for the weekend heats and final.

“With more than 20 applicants, including the twins, I would certainly not like to be on the judging panel,” Ms Bleechmore said.

“Miss Universe Australia has also just advised that they will be bringing the “Miss Universe Australia Tiara” valued at $30,000 to Coffs Harbour. The Tiara will be on display at Park Beach Plaza over the weekend.”

In addition to the Regional NSW Miss Universe Australia title, Park Beach Plaza and Coffs Harbour Racing Club are also looking for our “2010 Face of the Carnival”. The highest ranking Coffs Harbour entrant will win the title and all that goes with it.

And as for Zoie and Mel’s pageant strategy?

“One of us will have straight hair and one will have curls to make it easier on the judges,” Zoie said.
