Viivi Pumpanen, a 21-year-old student from Vantaa, bagged the grand title and was crowned with a tiara on Sunday evening.
Speaking on YLE’s breakfast programme on Monday, Pumpanen said she was surprised by her victory as she is considered relatively short for a beauty pageant contestant at 167 cm.
“I’ve dreamt of becoming Miss Finland since I was eight years old, and now I’ve achieved my dream,” said Pumpanen, who’s evoked a girl-next-door image in the media.
Pumpanen says she hopes to engage with everyday people during her one-year reign, adding that she hopes to be a queen of the people.
“It would be great to work with children and youths,” she says.
Action Plan for Miss Universe Competition
Pumpanen, who was chosen as Miss Helsinki last year, will represent Finland in the Miss Universe competition next summer.
“I plan to study previous American and Venezuelan contestants who've been successful,” explains Pumpanen.
The Miss Finland 2010 pageant was televised live on MTV3 on Sunday evening.
