DUBBED "Sunset over the Opera House", average Aussies are worried the latest national costume for Miss Universe Australia looks more like something from Las Vegas.
The outfit, to be seen by a global TV audience of two billion, was derided in online forums for looking like it came from the Priscilla: Queen of the Desert musical, some calling it "hideous" and "tacky" and saying she looks like "a walking icy pole".

Miss Universe Australia Rachael Finch, who contests the title in the Bahamas next month, showed the dress in Perth on Wednesday night.
Designed by Ruth Tarvydas, it has a silver sequined bodice, leg-revealing skirt in tangerine, melon and pink and a lace-up back.
Tarvydas was the designer behind Rebecca Twigley's headline-grabbing Brownlow red carpet moment in 2004 and Jessica Bratich's arrival at the Allan Border Medal count in February.

Designers vied for the chance to create a piece reflecting Australia's "culture beauty and spirit".
It is not the first time the national costume has caused controversy.
Last year's frill creation by Jayson Brunsdon led to national and international headlines.
But Finch was impressed. "My goodness that woman (Tarvydas) is magnificent," she said.
