Entering the Miss Gibraltar contest was an opportunity not to be missed; winning the contest was unbelievable. With tears in her eyes, Kaiane Aldorino, 22, was crowned Miss Gibraltar 2009 on a glittering night last Saturday and said: "I can't believe it!"
In her first words as the new Miss Gibraltar she wanted Gibraltar to know that she would not let her country down: "I will make Gibraltar very proud," she promised.
And she then went on to thank everyone who had helped her on the road to gaining the coveted Miss Gibraltar crown.
Kaiane loves dancing and has been in a dance group since she was much younger. Entering Miss Gibraltar had always been on her mind. Now, she will dance all her way to the Miss World contest.
"I will be honoured to represent my country," she said, adding that she was "a proud Gibraltarian."
1st Princess was Maxine de la Rosa,20, and 2nd Princess was Jordana Lavagna, 18.
There were 16 contestants this year, more than for quite some time.
This is a popular show every year, so it is a mystery that it should be held in the confines of the Alameda open air theatre and not in St Michael's Cave, which is Gibraltar's natural auditorium and allows for more people to see the show in such a beautiful setting.
