In light of the ongoing war of words between Miss California Carrie Prejean and Perez Hilton over her answer to Hilton's question about same-sex marriage at the 2009 Miss USA Pageant, the media is going back over old pageant scandals for story ideas. One of the more recent pageant scandals was that of 2006 Miss USA Tara Conner, who nearly lost her crown when unflattering pictures surfaced of her abusing drugs and alcohol. Pageant owner Donald Trump stepped in and suggested a rehab program so that Tara Conner could keep her crown. Three years later and Conner is ready to take on a career in country music.
Although she is best known for her near loss of crown, Tara Conner has managed to move on. She completed her rehab program, kept her crown and title, finished fourth runner-up in the Miss Universe Pageant, and moved on. Since then she has appeared on the MTV reality television program, "The Girls of Hedsor Hall," which took 12 young ladies whose lives were falling apart and attempted to transform them into lovely women.
Tara Conner was offered $1 million to do a spread for Playboy right after the rehab experience, but she turned the men's magazine down. She told Fox News, "I have no regrets at all. Many people see "Playboy" as beautiful art but my art is my music."
And country music has become her passion. The 23-year-old former beauty queen could say that she gets it honest, hailing from Kentucky. Her family, she says, was very music-oriented, singing and playing various instruments, but all she could do was sing. She announced on her MySpace web page that she has been working hard on material for a country album for the past four months, with plans of launching a country musicsinging career soon. She said she had never felt confident in her singing to reach for her goals but that after appearing on the third season of CMT's "Gone Country," she "had never been put in the position to write...and when i did i knew thats [sic] where i belonged!!!"
