She feels on top of the world and life is looking beautiful to Pantaloons Femina Miss India Universe 2008, Simran Kaur Mundi.

Raring to take on the stiff competition at Vietnam, this beautiful Punjabi kudi is confident of making it at the Miss Universe 2008 pageant.

“It’s all a mind game. One must know whose advice to follow and how to have fun at the same time,” says Simran. Practicing relentlessly for the pageant, she starts her day early. Fitness is foremost on Simran’s mind. “I do weight training and love to eat. Fortunately, I’ve been asked by Deanne Pandey, who’s helping me with my fitness routine, to put on a little more weight,” confesses Simran with a giggle.

Born and brought up in Mumbai, she counts her friends and parents as her support systems. Experts on the Pantaloons Femina Miss India 2008 panel have guided her well. Niti Desai advised her about diet; Sabira Merchant about diction; Rukhsana Eisa about grooming and etiquette; Bharat and Dorris about make-up and hairstyling; Dr Jamuna Pai for skincare; Dr Sandesh Mayekar about smile care; Dr Apoorva and Sonal Shah about haircare; Subi Samuel with photography; Dr Purnima Mhatre with beauty and wellness; Seema Hingorrani with psychoanalysis; Jayati Bose with stylising and Singapore Airlines as the official airline partner of the pageant. And this girl is only too happy to follow their words.

Standing tall, Simran used to play basketball during her college years and was also a national-level basketball player. And with her charming ways, later at the PFMI ’08, she was a darling of all the designers who made special attires for different rounds at the international pageant.

Ritu Kumar designed the national costume, Indian wear and casual wear for her. Ritu says fondly, “With over 80 competitors there, Simran must stand out and Indian ensembles – due to the bright, grand look – add to the grandeur. Simran just needs to sport some lovely jewellery and strike a nice pose, she will be a sure winner.”

Simran says that she is very grateful to Hemant Trevedi, official ramp walk trainer, who mentored her through. Her evening-gown is designed by him. Hemant says, “Standing for today’s young, confident and passionate India, Simran as a delegate is representing this sub-continent. She represents herself in a striking contrast of pink-passion and the demure, yet a mysterious black!”

He goes on poetically, “Doing complete justice to Simran’s towering frame and perfectly structured proportions, the evening gown that she will sport on her final night has swirls of abstract, pop art, beading for the body, multi-panelled skirt and a silhouette which is a departure from the norm and constantly remains in motion, just like Simran herself.”

Designer Ranna Gill designed the swimwear, evening gown and cocktail dresses for Simran. She said, “We have worked on these ensembles keeping Simran’s body frame and height in mind. Playing up colours that compliment her skin type, the garments add grace to an international ramp.”

Designer Deepika Gehani designed some cocktail dresses and beautiful suits. Calling Simran stylish and sexy, Deepika says, “Short dresses and deep jewelled tones like emerald and ruby compliment her rosy complexion and sexy long legs. She wears them with ease and confidence portraying sensuality with style.”

Oozing confidence and grace, Simran signs off on an inspiring note saying, “Indians have the potential to rule the world, we need to go ahead and prove just that. And I will come back with the crown.”
