Battle of the blondes for Miss Scotland title

TWO blonde beauties from Lanarkshire are battling it out to be crowned this year’s Miss Scotland.

Mhairi Brown, from Bothwell, and Larkhall’s Lisa Ingram are bidding to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Nieve Jennings.

Both young women are delighted to have reached the final 17 out of 2000 girls who entered the contest.

Ten girls will fight it out in the Miss Scotland grand final in Glasgow’s Princes Square on May 25.

The highly sought-after title comes with a whopping £10,000 prize and lucrative modelling contract.

The lucky winner will also represent her country in the glittering Miss World competition in Ukraine.

Lisa Ingram (24), of Chestnut Grove, clinched third place in last year’s competition and is hoping to go two places better this time round.

She told the Advertiser: “This year has been more nerve wracking, as I went so close last year.

“The competition is great fun and it is getting bigger and better every year.”

Lisa, who is 5ft 10ins tall, is a former pupil at Larkhall Academy and Glengowan Primary.

She graduated with a BA (Honours) degree in Radiation Oncology Science at Glasgow Caledonian University in the summer of 2006.

Lisa said she would love to be crowned Miss Scotland as it would be a life-changing experience and she could help raise cash for charity.

“To be able to make a difference to someone’s life would make the year special,” she added.

“I am patriotic, love Scotland, and I’d love to promote all good things about it to the rest of the world.

“It would be a great experience to get to Miss World and try to bring that title back here.

“But the main thing for me is to keep my fingers crossed and enjoy the competition for as long as I am in it.”

Miss Scotland contestant Mhairi Brown

Mhairi Brown (22), of the Fairways, is no stranger to the limelight.

Last November, the former Holy Cross and St Mary’s Primary pupil appeared on SKY Sports Soccer AM show on Saturday.

Mhairi, the girlfriend of Accies right back Tom Parratt, was selected as the show’s ‘Soccerette” and was proud to represent Accies and wore the club’s home shirt during her appearance.

Mhairi works with a training and recruitment agency based within the offices at Hamilton Accies stadium at New Douglas Park.

She is over the moon to reach the final 17.

Mhairi added: “It’s the first time that I have ever entered a competition like this.

“I am thrilled, very excited and would love to make the grand final.

“I would love to represent my country, and it’s a chance to travel and meet new people.

“I would like to thank everyone at Hamilton Accies for their support.

“It was a fantastic achievement for Accies to gain promotion.”
