F1 ball is a gem of a fundraiser

JENNIFER Hawkins knows that not only are diamonds a girl's best friend, this diamond pendant could help save a best friend's life.

The extremely rare 3.35 carat Argyle pink champagne diamond will be auctioned at this month's Formula One Grand Prix Ball to raise money for the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Hawkins will wear the pendant, which is expected to attract bids of more than $250,000, to the March 31 event.

The diamond, donated by Rio Tinto and Argyle Diamonds, is set in a handcrafted 18 carat white gold pendant and surrounded by a pave setting of 71 round brilliant-cut diamonds totalling almost a carat.

Proceeds from the auction will help to support women with breast cancer. Ticket buyers have the chance to win pole position on the night -- two seats on the former Miss Universe's table.
