General News December 10th, 2010
On Saturday, December 4, a new queen for a year was crowned, who will represent Aruba at the Miss Universe Pageant 2011. Gillain Berry is a familiar face for islanders, as her exquisite countenance has graced quite a few magazine spreads and television commercials on Aruba.
Aruba’s newly crowned queen and founders of Star Promotions, which conduct the Miss Aruba Pageant, met with press to give a little background for the public about our candidate for Miss Universe 2011.
Gillain (pronounced jill-LANE) was born in Jamaica, but has lived on Aruba since she was six years old. She is as comfortable with Papiamento as the English spoken in her home. She graduated from Aruba’s EPI Middle School with an Associate Degree in Hospitality Management and plans to study for her Bachelor Degree at the University of Aruba when her tenure as Miss Aruba is finished.
“I am very proud and grateful to have been selected to represent Aruba at this prestigious world event,” Miss Berry told media. “I am highly motivated and will work very hard over the next nine months towards becoming a real presence at the Miss Universe Pageant; I am determined to bring the title home to Aruba.”
