In a press briefing Tuesday held in Manila Peninsula, the 24-year-old international model said she learned that the Philippines pulled off a successful electoral exercise despite the warnings from naysayers who believed elections will fail.
“It’s my first time to visit the Philippines and I just want to congratulate you guys for making your elections successful,” she told reporters.
Mendoza, who was drafted by Venezuelan automation provider Smartmatic as “Ambassador of Goodwill for Automated Elections”, said she will be in the country in the next few days to thank the Filipino people for keeping their faith on automation and the benefits it has made in restoring democratic will.
For his part, Smartmatic Asia Pacific president Cesar Flores said Mendoza will attend to corporate social activities of the company including the handing out of 50 laptops and two printers for the Habitat for Humanity and Una Mano.
“She will also meet the former Miss Universe titleholders from the Philippines, Gloria Diaz and Margie Moran, for the charity events. She will also visit the Comelec (Commission on Elections) on Wednesday, among other things,” he said. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
