Mr. Le Xuan Than, Committee Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa province, confirmed that on January 28, 2010, the province received a fax from RAAS corporations, announcing the organization will withdraw from the competition. This means RAAS will no longer be responsible for amounts $ 10 million it promised to sponsor for the Miss World 2010 Pageant in Vietnam.
RAAS, the Sponsor for Miss World 2010 in Vietnam, announces to withdraw from the Competition In July 2008, Hoang Kieu – President of US based RAAS Group, signed a memorandum on the organization of Miss World 2010 in Vietnam with Julia Morley – President of Miss World. In September 2008, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan agreed to grant Khanh Hoa province to host Miss World 2010 with funding from RAAS corporations. However, in late December 2010, RAAS wanted to move the pageant to Tien Giang as it would cost much less to organize the event there. The final decision on the location to host Miss World 2010 has not been ruled out. RAAS now announced to withdraw from the competition. Before the departure of the donor, to reserve the right to host the event, the province of Khanh Hoa will have to prove its ability to meet the expenditure of $ 10 million to the Miss World organization. Ms. Thuy Hanh, representative of company Elite said: “Khanh Hoa will have to find new donors since the government as well as the Khanh Hoa province cannot spend large sums of money for such a competition. The Khanh Hoa People’s Committee will meet to discuss the issue next week. Department of Performing Arts and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism have not received the written notice of the RAAS. Deputy Minister Le Tien Tho said: “I have not received the official documents from RAAS so I cannot have opinions about this.” Mr. Hoang Kieu will be in Vietnam next week to have a talk with Khanh Hoa province on the retreat and can meet with the press in the country. Currently, the website of the Miss World organization does not cover any information about the withdrawal of RAAS.
