Russian Miss World inspires Welsh contestants with her confidence

The 54 women enjoyed lunch with Russian beauty and Miss World 2008 winner Ksenia Sukhinova at Gio’s on Mill lane, Cardiff.

Miss Wales finalist and Miss Bridgend, Jade Phillips, 18, said: “She is absolutely amazing, out of this world. And this is such a great opportunity to meet her. She’s beautiful and such a good role model because she has confidence. And her pictures are absolutely fantastic.”

Tonight Jade and her fellow contestants will take to the stage at Cardiff International for the chance to represent Wales at the Miss World 2009 competition in South Africa later this year.

They donned Welsh flag dresses for yesterday’s midday date, ahead of last night’s Miss Wales charity ball at the Holland House Hotel on Newport Road. Ksenia also went to the ball to celebrate the finalists having raised £100,000 for the competition’s chosen charity, The Joshua Foundation.

The chairwoman of the Miss World empire Julia Morley was to present the first Miss Wales Beauty With A Purpose Award at the ball. Event organiser, Paula Abbandonato, of model company Vibe, said: “The Miss Wales 2009 competition will have blown the roof off any other UK pageant in terms of its support for good causes. To have Miss World come and celebrate that achievement with us is really exciting and will make it an even more special occasion for all the contestants who have worked so hard in the run up to the final.” Entries for Miss Wales 2010 are now open. To be in with a chance you must be Welsh, have Welsh heritage or have lived in Wales for more than five years. You must be aged between 17 and 24 by the time of the Miss Wales grand final and you should never have been married or had children.

Entry deadlines for regional heats are at www.misswales.co.u
