The reigning Miss India has no qualms about showing off her shapely figure in a swimsuit.

Parvathy Omanakuttan, an English literature graduate from Kerala, is among 112 contestants who will be vying for the Miss World crown in the Sandton Convention Centre on December 13.

Omanakuttan, 21, who arrived in Durban for the swimsuit segment of the competition this week, told the Sunday Times Extra: “I don’t think it’s wrong (to parade in a swimsuit), because if you have a good body, why can’t you do it.”

Like most of her Miss India predecessors, she has set her sights on Bollywood and hopes to star opposite her favourite actor, Hrithik Roshan.

The lanky beauty with a mane of thick, glossy hair said that when she heard the pageant was being held in South Africa, she had mixed emotions.

“People told me that Johannesburg was an amazing city, and then they told us it was a dangerous place and we would have to be careful. But the experience that we’ve had is completely different. We were treated like complete princesses,” she said.

One of the highlights of her stay so far was going on safari in Limpopo.

“We got to live in a typical tribal hut, which was an amazing experience. The huts were made in such a way that we were warm. There were no lights or air-conditioners, but we felt at home. During the safari, we got to take pictures of lions and cheetahs, which were so close to us.”

She considers herself a “nature freak”, having grown up in southern India, where she was always surrounded by trees and animals.

She said she was overwhelmed by the warm reception she received at Durban International Airport.

She clinched the title of Miss India in April this year and also won Miss Personality and Miss Beautiful Hair.

“I oil my hair every week. I don’t use any extra products on my hair, and I don’t colour it either. I take care of it like a small baby.”

She said it had been “eight long years” since India won Miss World, and she was determined to take home the title.

Her motto is “You learn from every person that you come across in life.”
