Miss Malaysia to win Miss World title? Odds are...

THIS Saturday, Malaysia's Ms Deborah Priya Henry will find out if she gets to wear the Miss World 2007 crown.

Miss Singapore, Ms Roshni Kaur Soin.

And as with all major international beauty pageants, punters around the world will be glued to their TV sets, waiting to see if they've struck it rich.

According to some websites, Miss Malaysia is a hot favourite to win, easily falling within the top 10.

On one site, she is listed with 15:1 odds. Which means that a $1 bet would pay $15 if she wins. These are the third shortest odds offered by the site, after Miss Dominican Republic and Miss Jamaica.

BIG QUESTION

Of course, the big question is:

Will she win?

According to the Miss World website, Ms Henry, 22, was born in Dublin to an Irish mum. Her dad is Indian, with Australian roots.

She grew up in Kuala Lumpur, and got her economics and political science degree from the University of Queensland.

Academic credentials aside, Ms Henry is also an avid sportswoman. She plays basketball and volleyball, and has won a gold medal in the Kuala Lumpur International schools athletics meet, and a Sportswoman of the Year trophy at school.

The 1.78m-tall beauty is also the founder of a charity called 'Open Doors'.

Last week, Ms Henry and her fellow contestants visited the Great Wall of China.

While there, one group of contestants sang the Olympic Torch Anthem. A second group did the same a little later, attracting crowds of curious tourists.

As for our own Miss Singapore, punters have her as an outsider in this contest.

Ms Roshni Kaur Soin, 21, has been given long odds ranging from 1:80 to 1:150 to as low as 1:300 on some websites.
