THEY were there to admire the cars, but even the most dedicated motoring enthusiast would have struggled to not be distracted by the glamorous Jennifer Hawkins at the Sydney Motor Show yesterday.
The former Miss Universe, who was at the show for Toyota, happily signed autographs before being whisked away by her burly minders.
Hawkins' appearance was part of a big first weekend for the motor show as thousands turned out to get a glimpse of the latest car trends.
With hundreds of cars to admire at Darling Harbour, there were three crowd favourites that appealed equally to men and women, according to a show spokesman.
"The first one getting a lot of attention has been the Saab concept car, Aero X. It's just amazing to look at," he said. "The Ferrari 599 has been drawing equally large crowds, as well as the Hummer 4WD at the Holden stand, which was getting a positive response."
The handmade concept cars are the rock stars of the motor show world, feted and handled with kid gloves.
The Aero X has travelled to New York, Geneva and Paris since it was unveiled in February. Beijing is next on the schedule.
But unlike rock stars, there are no tantrums and wild behaviour - although a Saab spokesman confessed a journalist did get locked in the car at one show when the electrics didn't work.
The show runs until next Sunday.
