Miss Texas USA 2007

An East Texan was crowned the Miss Texas USA on Sunday night. Magen Ellis of Whitehouse won. She has also worn the crown of Miss Tyler Teen USA and Miss Texas Teen USA. Magen now lives in Houston, the city she represented last night. East Texans were sitting on the edge of their seats watching her during the competition.

"When we saw it get to the final two. We were just on pins and needles it was just a neat experience to see somebody that you knew that has walked around our halls here," says Tony Black, Principal of Whitehouse High School.

Magen Ellis is one of Tony Black's former students. She graduated from Whitehouse High School in 2004 and he says her success is no surprise.

"I remember a story about her telling an academic advisor in Houston that she wanted to be Miss Universe and then the counsel asked her for some legitimate goals and that is her goal and I think she has set up herself for that," says Black.

Magen has modeled for Cavender's Boot City and the store's marketing director, Terry Cooper says he could not be happier for her.

"We are elated because she has worked hard to get there also its good to see good people win," says Terry Cooper, Director of Marketing at Cavender's Boot City.

Principal Black says the judges and public got a little glimpse into Magen's personality.

"She has a quirky sense of humor. She has a great sense of humor and loves life and loves people and loves being around people," says Black.

Magen was not the only Whitehouse student in the competition last night. Miss Tyler Mollianna Redding also graduated from Whitehouse.

"It was neat to see both of them, I know they got to make a connection at the end after Magen had been named Miss Texas USA, it was neat to see the two of them there," says Black.

It was a night, for East Texans to shine. Ellis was awarded a $100,000 gift pack including a new Ford Mustang, jewelry, a mink coat and cash. Ellis will go on to the Miss USA pageant next year.
