Rye's high on Natalie

Just two years ago Natalie Glebova walked the halls of Ryerson University in jeans and sneakers, flanked by friends.

Yesterday Glebova was paraded down the same halls, flanked by the university president and other senior staff and wearing heels and a fancy sash. "It's amazing to walk the halls of the university wearing my sash," Glebova said. "I miss this place a lot."

Miss Universe 2005 paid a visit to her alma mater and perused the university's AIDS Education project display honouring her work as a promoter of AIDS awareness, while her school peers looked on.

"She's hot," said Lakhwinder Kuner, 19, who stuck around with friends, trying to get a cellphone picture of the 24-year-old beauty.

Despite her demure outfit -- a black, lace, pencil-skirt and fitted black blazer -- Glebova's striking blue eyes and doll-face brought passing students to a standstill as they craned their necks for a peek.

"Guys, we have a class to catch," said one student looking at her watch.

"For some reason, I don't care anymore," said her male colleague.

Glebova's reign draws to a close July 23 when a new Miss Universe will be crowned in Los Angeles.

Glebova, a 2004 graduate of information technology management, said her reign has taught her to be "more compassionate" and opened her eyes to the AIDS epidemic.

Her celebrity status in Thailand, where she was crowned, has opened doors for the aspiring businesswoman, who hopes to work in the beauty industry.

"I fell in love with the country, culture and the people." she said. "But Toronto will always be home."
